There are a number of reasons you may need roof repair. Between water penetration issues to regular wear and tear troubles, all roofs eventually suffer damage that can compromise their appearance, longevity and performance. Of the usual suspects of roofing damage is hail.
The number one reason why hail damage is hard to deal with is that it can go undetected until it causes serious trouble. Read on as B&M Roofing shows you how to identify hail-damaged parts of your roof and what to do about it.
Signs of Hail Damage
Minor hail damage will rarely require a full roof replacement. However, when left untreated, it could worsen into bigger problems or lead to more issues in your roofing system. It pays to familiarize yourself with some of the few signs that your shingles may have suffered some damage from a recent hail storm:
- Impact damage can often knock the granules off the shingles. Check your gutters and downspouts for asphalt granules. These granules may also end up in the ground surrounding your home.
- Hail is notorious for breaking individual shingles. Over time, these broken or cracked shingles can get knocked off, exposing the vulnerable underlayment underneath.
- In advanced cases, hailstones may have already knocked off one or two shingles off your roof. Look for missing shingles from the ground. For areas in your roof panels that are not visible, contact your local roofer for a quick inspection.
Post-Storm Damage Assessment
As soon as the weather clears, call your shingle and metal roofing contractor for a thorough assessment of your roof. Preventive maintenance visits also provide an opportunity to identify problem areas, which is why it’s important to get your roof professionally inspected at least once every one or two years.
